How the registers are built
Each event is checked against a primary source before it is counted: an acquirer or company press release, or an SEC filing. The source excerpt is kept with the event. Deal values count toward totals only when the buyer has stated them and the deal has closed. Where a filing gives the booked purchase consideration, the register uses that figure rather than the headline announcement.
Leads that cannot be verified are held back and never counted.
